Fun Facts about Halifax:

  • Halifax has the second largest ice-free natural harbour in the world after Sydney, Australia.

  • In 1866, Halifax entered a 99 year lease to rent Point Pleasant Park from the British government for 1 shilling (10 cents) per year.  In 1879, this lease was extended for 999 years.  Will this lease be renewed in the year 2865? 

  • Halifax is closer to Dublin, Ireland than it is to Victoria, BC.

Dartmouth

Fun Facts about Dartmouth:

  • The Halifax Transit Ferry connecting Halifax and Dartmouth is the oldest saltwater ferry in North America.​

  • Sidney Crosby was born and raised in Cole Harbour.

  • The Locks of the Shubenacadie Canal were completed in 1861 and feature 9 locks.

  • Sulivans Pond was artificially created as part of the Shubenacadie Canal with Lake Banook.

Bedford

Fun Facts about Bedford:

  • There are about 26 Volvo's from 1969 at the bottom of the Bedford Basin.

  • The hearth-shaped pond was oval until 1869 when Prince Aurthur shaped it into a heard.

  • The Bedford Barrens contains historical Mi'kmaq petroglyphs that could be more than 500 years old.

  • Tolson's Pond used to be located where the Bedford Tower is today and in the 1950's was a popular place to skate.
